Fine antique hand-painted Russian Orthodox icon depicting Our Lady of Kazan (Theotokos of Kazan) with the Christ Child, bearing the traditional Cyrillic inscription “Казанская пр. бц.” (Kazanskaya Presvyataya Bogoroditsa) along the lower border.
The Kazan Mother of God is one of Russia’s most sacred and revered miracle-working icons, historically invoked as a spiritual protector of the nation and traditionally presented as a blessing during weddings.
The icon is enclosed in an elaborate metal riza covered with stamped 84 silver, featuring intricate repoussé detailing and vibrant polychrome cloisonné enamel corner accents.
Hand-painted on a traditional wood panel, featuring a stamped 84 silver oklad with enamel work. In perfect condition.
