Japanese Sumida Gawa
An antique Japanese polychrome glazed ceramic figural sculpture modeled as an elderly gardener standing alongside a flowering plant holder, executed in traditional folk-art style.
- Expressive Figurative Modeling: Depicts a smiling artisan or gardener wearing a patterned haori robe over a draped tunic, realistically sculpted with distinct facial details and natural skin tones.
- Integrated Planter / Holder: Features a cylindrical woven-textured container at the base bearing a sculpted blooming blossom, functionally designed as a desk brush pot, match stand, or miniature flower vase.
- Vibrant Polychrome Glaze: Accented with contrasting thick glazes in emerald green, salmon pink, and geometric black-and-white patterns over an earthy ceramic body.
- Period Character: Reflects late Meiji to early Taisho period decorative ceramic traditions (reminiscent of Sumida Gawa wares), in very good vintage condition with authentic kiln and age wear.
