Japanese Black Satsuma
An antique Japanese black Satsuma porcelain vase decorated with a figural domestic scene of geishas and an attendant beneath cherry blossoms.
- Narrative Figural Scene: Hand-painted in the distinctive Satsuma tradition with an interior narrative depicting a nobleman smoking a kiseru pipe alongside two elegantly attired geishas (bijin) in patterned kimonos.
- Gilt & Moriage Detailing: Lavishly embellished with raised enamels (moriage), fine gilt linework, and hanging sprigs of blossoming sakura (cherry blossoms) over a lustrous jet-black Satsuma glaze.
- Baluster Form: Displays a high-shouldered baluster silhouette with a gently flaring rim and a deep, mirror-reflective black lacquer-style ground.
- Preservation & Origin: An authentic Japanese export decorative piece dating from the late Meiji to early Showa era, preserved in very good vintage condition with bright enamel pigments.
