Indian Plate

A large vintage Indian hand-engraved brass decorative charger featuring hand-painted polychrome lacquer accents depicting a musician figure riding a magnificent peacock.

  • Iconic Cultural Figural Scene: Centered with a classical figure playing a stringed instrument (tanpura or veena, reminiscent of Goddess Saraswati), seated atop a standing peacock whose fanned tail feathers form a dramatic radiused backdrop.
  • Intricate Chased & Polychrome Details: Finely hand-engraved with micro-scroll foliate backgrounds, filled with traditional hand-applied colored lacquer accents in red, pink, blue, and forest green tones.
  • Ornamental Border Work: Framed by an intricately hatched foliate border and an outer raised rim detailed with scrolling botanical garlands; ideal for wall hanging or display as a table charger.
