Japanese Meiji Bronze

An antique Japanese Meiji period patinated bronze tripod censer (Koro) featuring a Shishi lion finial and mythical creature handles, resting on a tailored wooden base.

  • Mythological Shishi Finial: The reticulated domed lid is surmounted by a boldly sculpted Buddhist lion (Shishi / Foo Dog) finial, designed to allow aromatic incense smoke to drift freely.
  • Figural Relief & Dragon Mounts: Flanked by stylized upward-sweeping dragon mask handles, the ovoid bronze body is chased with narrative relief medallions set against textured grounds.
  • Elevated Tripod Stand: Raised on three tall, curving zoomorphic legs modeled with mythical beast masks, seated atop its original pierced dark wood display base.
  • Aged Patina: Shows an authentic deep brown bronze patina with subtle tonal variations consistent with late 19th-century Japanese bronze casting.
